Stanford University Veterinary Service Center is seeking a Facilities Maintenance and Asset Manager to oversee and manage assigned staff engaged in facilities management, building/equipment maintenance, and inventory management. Duties include:
Coordinate daily activities of assigned shop(s), including: scheduling and assigning work to staff and directing and leading workers in completing assigned work; monitoring work and project activity progress, making necessary changes; completing performance evaluations of assigned staff; performing quality assurance checks, and coordinating health and safety programs and training.
Track budget for area of responsibility, and provide time and workforce needs and estimates to higher level management based on cost analyses, ensuring work is completed according to stipulated price and agreement.
Implement, interpret, and manage policies and procedures pertaining to operations and facilities management.
Manage service contracts as applicable.
Coordinate activities, construction, and renovation with Stanford staff, subcontractors, and/or vendors. Support assigned project activities; ensure compliance with larger unit goals.
Implement facility security programs by developing procedures/practices, distributing keys, providing building access, monitoring access records, assessing security infrastructure needs (security cameras, interlocks, alarms); and assessing and changing access schedules
Serve as safety management coordinator by: correcting identified safety issues, performing root cause analysis, identifying and tracking corrective actions; tracking chemical inventory, disposal, hazardous waste; developing, coordinating, evaluating and ensuring compliance with disposal procedures in laboratory settings; developing and conducting safety training and/or new employee facility orientation; and maintaining and participating in emergency preparedness, recovery and business continuity coordination

Bachelor's degree in engineering or other appropriate technical area, or combination of technical education, training, and experience.
5 years of experience managing facilities operations and maintenance staff in an environment with a variety of building types (administrative offices, laboratories, vivariums etc.).
Experience with inventory management systems.
Experience with various mechanical systems to include, but not limited, large water, aquatic, and/or large industrial steam mechanical systems.
Knowledge of standard operating procedures for the various species of animals used in biomedical research; USDA health and welfare standards; special handling techniques for biohazard, radioactive or infectious materials; and standards outlined in the NIH Guide for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and the accreditation standards of Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).
Previous supervisory experience in a biomedical research animal facility.
Excellent customer relationship skills with the ability to establish effective ongoing relationships with staff, vendors and departments.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
A combination of education, training and experience performing responsibilities similar to those listed above. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Ability to coordinate daily activities including work scheduling, quality assurance, program validation, monitoring of maintenance activities, and supervision of personnel.
Demonstrated experience working with subcontractors/vendors and demonstrated ability to monitor project activities and ensure compliance with internal/external regulations.
Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting policies.
Knowledge of environmental and safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to conduct job site inspections to ensure compliance.
Ability to follow written and verbal directions and communicate those instructions to others.
Frequently sitting, perform desk-based computer tasks, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Occasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 11-20 pounds.
Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.
