Job Description Summary
The Assistant Director of Aquatics and Adventure is responsible for the administration of all aquatics programming, pool operations, adventure programming, and supports risk management compliance for the department of Campus Recreation and Wellness. This position manages the daily operation of the Sheerr Pool with oversight of water quality and aquatics staff including a Lead Operations Supervisor, lifeguards, instructors, and programming staff as well as the daily operation of the indoor rock climbing wall, staff, and rental process for Outdoor Adventure equipment. Works collaboratively with the Associate Athletic Director of Facilities and the Assistant Director of Facility Operations to evaluate and coordinate aquatic facility repairs, maintenance, housekeeping, and capital projects. The Assistant Director effectively develops, markets, and implements comprehensive aquatic and adventure programs and trainings that maximize participation and align with and support Campus Wellness or other Campus Partner initiatives. Assists the supervisor of recreational programming with assessments, customer service, staff development & training, payroll, purchasing, inventory, reporting, & budget management. This position assesses and mitigates current and future risk for the department, oversees risk management policies and procedures, holds required associated trainings, certifications and licenses, and teaches safety and certification courses as required. Receives direct administrative supervision and guidance from the Sr. Associate Athletic Director/Chief Operations Officer.
Manage the daily operations and schedule for Sheerr Pool.
Develop, market, and implement comprehensive aquatic and adventure programming; including lessons, certifications, courses, rock wall climbing, team building, leadership, survival, youth, and community events.
Supervise, hire, and train aquatics and adventure staff.
Organize risk management compliance for the department.
Manage the daily operations for the indoor rock climbing wall.
Manage aquatics and adventure budgets.
Other duties as assigned.
A Bachelorâ™s degree required, Masterâ™s degree in Recreation, Sport Administration, Physical Education or Higher Education preferred and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certification required. WSI and/or LGI certification preferred. CPO and/or AFO certification preferred. PA Pesticide Applicator certification preferred. American Red Cross CPR/AED Instructor certification preferred. AMGA Top Rope certification preferred. Must be willing to acquire and maintain all necessary certifications. Evenings and weekends as required.
