Departmental Overview Field stations of the UC Natural Reserve System have been an intimate part of the BNHM's history and focus on the natural laboratory. Nine reserves in particular are aligned with the Berkeley Natural History Museums. Their diversity in habitat, ecology and biodiversity are critical areas of research and education.
We are also part of a Critical Zone Observatory centered on the Eel River at the Angelo Coast Range Reserve. The Eel River Critical Zone Observatory (CZO) is one of ten National Science Foundation observatories that study the interconnection of physical, chemical and biological processes of the critical zone where rock, soil, water, air and living organisms interact and shape the Earth's surface.
Assist with physical and biological stream sample collection at Eel River
Sort and identify collected aquatic macroinvertebrates to genus and species for stream phenology studies
Collate and enter data into Excel
Analyze stream data (e.g. calculate biomass available in pools)
Other duties as needed (attend lab meetings, etc.)
Experience with data entry and MS Excel
Prior field work experience
Experience identifying aquatic macroinvertebrates
Strong communication skills
Ability to work independently
Strong organizational skills
Previous sample collection experience
B.S. in a science related discipline and/or equivalent experience/training
