ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY MARITIME ACADEMY: Established in 1929, California State University Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University, is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast. Located on a scenic waterfront site in Vallejo, the campus serves a student population of approximately 1100 undergraduates and 50 graduate students. The campus currently offers undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering Technology, Marine Transportation, Global and Maritime Studies, and Business Administration. A master's degree in Transportation and Engineering Management is offered as well as a number of extended learning programs and courses.
Position Summary: The Aquatics Coordinator assists with the day-to-day management of the Aquatics Department. The Aquatics Coordinator assists with organizing and supervising the Aquatics operations and programs, which includes providing program support, maintaining certification records, scheduling and providing lead direction to staff, and assisting in ensuring pool safety and proper maintenance.
Prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies including providing professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses.
Provide lead work direction to Lifeguards and Aquatic Specialists. Assist in recruiting, mentoring, evaluating and providing additional training as necessary.
Provide pool maintenance duties including facility maintenance, equipment inspections, and ordering equipment and supplies. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state and local health and safety regulations.
Assist the Aquatics Supervisor with administrative duties including staff scheduling and confirming schedules; producing, updating and providing reports on swimmer attendance and comparative pool rental rates; updating policy and procedure manuals and forms; maintaining accurate records of staff certifications and training compliance and other duties as assigned.
Teach proper swimming techniques in a safe, positive and healthy manner in accordance with Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Guidelines.
High School graduate or GED.
Three year's Lifeguarding experience.
Ability to train, plan, and direct the work of others.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Thorough understanding of customer service.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and demonstrate cooperative behavior with the community, faculty, staff, and students.
Current American Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguarding/CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
Title 22 for Lifeguards.
Water Safety Instructor Certification within 6 months of hire.
Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in progress or received in a related field
Lifeguard Training Instructor certified by the American Red Cross
Experience with Scheduling Software.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL and ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Fifty percent or more of the activities involve walking, standing, standing, squatting, kneeling or climbing, involves lifting heavy weight objects that may exceed 50 pounds.
Employee regularly works outdoors and is routinely exposed to the sun, may be exposed to extreme heat or cold and rain.
Regularly works on uneven slippery surfaces. HOURS of WORK: May be required to work overtime, early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays based on operational needs.
BACKGROUND CHECK: A background check including fingerprinting must be satisfactorily completed before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
