Working under the direction of Research Assistants and Researchers, this position is responsible for the daily care and husbandry of axolotls (aquatic salamanders) in a research environment in accordance with all applicable laws and regulatory guidelines. Technician will maintain health and well-being of laboratory axolotls by providing a stable, clean environment with quality food and water and husbandry practices. Specific responsibilities include: perform and record daily animal health observations, communicate any adverse findings to the manager, and complete required documentation. Technician will maintain clean, orderly and sanitized work areas - identifying any problems, performing daily room checks for environmental conditions (temperature, salinity, lighting, pH), performing and recording all water chemistry testing, and completing required area documentation. Technician will monitor equipment for proper operation and complete appropriate documentation. Additionally, technician will monitor supplies and communicate supply needs to Research Assistants.
This is a grant-funded one-year term position with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and the continued availability of funding.
Some holiday and weekend coverage will be required. May be required to work with and handle lab-based animals May be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment. May be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials.

High school graduate or equivalent.
High school graduate with some related college courses preferred. Previous experience in animal husbandry or scientific research is not required. One year of experience in laboratory work preferred. Candidates must be reliable and must work with attention to detail.
