The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Cornell invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Environmental Processes (EP) engineering. The EP faculty at Cornell have historically focused on the fundamental biological, chemical, and physical phenomena that affect the behavior and fate of contaminants in soil and aquatic environments along with the planning, design, and operation of the engineering facilities needed to ensure effective control of environmental quality. While we wish to maintain this focus, our vision is to broaden the application of these fundamental processes to address the pressing needs of society.
We seek exceptional candidates with strong experimental skills in the biological, chemical, and physical aspects of environmental engineering. Candidates with strong complementary capabilities in modeling and theory are particularly desirable. The School of CEE at Cornell has great strengths in the related areas of Environmental Systems, Water Resources, and Environmental Fluid Mechanics. Candidates displaying a potential to collaborate with research in these areas or other fields at Cornell (including our colleagues in the Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences) are especially welcomed. Efforts to build these collaborative connections at Cornell are greatly aided by a variety of funding opportunities available at the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future (https://www.acsf.cornell.edu).
Examples of suitable research foci include (but are not limited to) the following;
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Engineering or a related field. While we anticipate hiring at the tenured Associate or Full Professor level, tenure-track appointments at the level of Assistant Professor will be considered. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Cornell is committed to finding attractive solutions for dual career couples (see https://hr.cornell.edu/jobs/relocating/dual-career-program) and provides generous family services, such as parental leave and on campus daycare. Successful applicants will be expected to lead a thriving research program, catalyze collaborative research efforts across campus, and provide excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This is an exciting time at Cornell and applications are encouraged from individuals with the skills and enthusiasm to build on our storied past and lead during this new era of discovery and teaching.
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the College of Engineering at Cornell embrace diversity and seek candidates who can contribute to a welcoming climate for all students. Ezra Cornell announced, "I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study."
In 1865, Ezra Cornell founded an institution "where any person can find instruction in any study." From the beginning, all students were welcome, regardless of race, gender, ideology, or socioeconomic status. Today, we invite you to join our talented and diverse students and accessible faculty who, together, form a living and learning community unmatched in its breadth of opportunities.Cornell Uni...versity's college, schools, and other academic units offer more than 4,000 courses, 70 undergraduate majors, 93 graduate fields of study, undergraduate and advanced degrees, and continuing education and outreach programs.
