The Coordinator of Aquatics & Special Events is responsible for the management of the aquatics area of the Morris Recreation Center. This position ensures safe and effective program delivery to the University community that includes swim lessons, open recreation, and special events programming. This position facilitates risk management training and ensures Campus Recreation meets University, local, state, and national requirements.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Great OutRoars area of the Morris Recreation Center that includes a heated leisure pool (beach-type entry, fountains, water tunnel, current channel, bubble jet benches, 3-lap lanes), 2-tier hot tub, 2 sand volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts, picnic tables, and a sunbathing area.
Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, evaluates, and manages payroll for lifeguards for the outdoor leisure pool in compliance with departmental and university regulations; Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, evaluates, and manages payroll for special event staff in compliance with departmental and university regulations
Coordinate and directly leads certification courses in American Red Cross CPR/AED/First for Campus Recreation student employees and American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification for program area student employees
Lead monthly Lifeguard in-services and insures aquatics staff training is within local and state compliance for operation
Oversee pool water testing, chemical supply ordering and proper storage of chemicals and works with the Office of Risk Management and Safety to insure chemical storage is in compliance with regulations
Serves as a liaison for Campus Recreation and assists external and internal partners with the coordination and supervision of the preventative maintenance plan for all aquatics equipment associated with the Morris Recreation Center
Develops and oversee comprehensive swim lesson program that serves primarily youth participants
Create and implement an open recreation swim incentive program for campus community
Oversee budgets for Aquatics and Special Events and purchase equipment and supplies for areas of responsibility
Assists with the development, implementation, evaluation and enforcement of all rules and regulations pertaining to aquatics operations
Collaborate with student organizations and campus partners to host cultural and social special events throughout the academic calendar including, but not limited to: Lionâ™s Roar, Rec Fest, Salsa Night, Lionâ™s Leap, Resolution Roar, Holi Fest, Mardi Gras, Caribbean Night, and Korean Night
Assists in the development and implementation of long-term and short-term goals for the Department of Campus Recreation
This job description shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services.
Education: Bachelorâ™s degree in sports administration, recreation, and/or other related field.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Two (2) years of experience in aquatic management in a collegiate, community, or private aquatics programming setting (undergraduate & graduate assistantships and internships are acceptable).
Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Licensing/Professional Certifications: Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certified.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Masterâ™s degree in sports administration, recreation, and/or other related field. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO).
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
Supervises 25-35 student lifeguards; 8-10 special event student staff members.
