Position Summary Susquehanna University Swim Instructors will provide competent, safe swimming instructions/lessons to children, ages 3-12. Summer Program Dates and Times for 2018 will be June 11 through July 6 (4 weeks), every weekday (Monday through Friday) from 9:30 to 11:30 am.
Ensure safety at all times and prevent injuries by supervising aquatics area and implementing best practices.
Promote and teach swimmer safety.
Report all incidents or concerns to the Aquatics Coordinator, Haley Townsend.
Design swim lesson plans for each session for your particular group/level.
Continually communicate with the children.
Find creative and fun ways to get the children to participate in various activities and work on particular skills.
Make sure every child in Pre-K and Level 1 has a Bubble Aid securely fastened around the waist.
Foster a productive, comfortable and enjoyable learning environment for instructors, parents and children.
Required Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Exceptional swimming skills and understanding of the fundamentals of every single swimming stroke (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly). Thorough knowledge of swimming and water safety skills. Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, parents and young children. Ability to creatively teach children new skills. Be able to teach a variety of ages.
Education High School graduate or current High School student 16 years of age or older.
Physical Demand Requires bending, pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to twenty (20) pounds, and climbing. Must possess physical stamina to respond effectively to emergency situations and work in a noisy, sometimes hot, distracting environment. Working conditions are indoor. Must be able to supervise multiple kids at a time.
Preferred QualificationsExperience Prior Swim Instructor experience is preferred.
Special Instructions to the Applicant Please note: Successful applicants under the age of 18, will need to provide a valid Work Permit (which can be obtained at their school district office).
Several Swim Instructor positions may be available depending on the enrollment of students.
