Job Summary The Assistant Athletic Trainer is a partner in the care of student-athletes competing in the NCAA D-III intercollegiate athletic programs at Caltech. Duties assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer and Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation include but are not limited to, the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries of intercollegiate student-athletes; safe and appropriate management and maintenance of daily athletic training center activities and facilities; other duties to compliment Athletics/Physical Education/Recreation department. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is also responsible to participate as a member of the college community and with all collaborative departmental functions as needed, and reports to Assistant Athletic Director for general supervision in the absence of Head Athletic Trainer.
Job Duties Responsibilities include but are not limited to, assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with: - Prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses of Caltech's 19 NCAA Division III teams - Provide health counseling and educational support to student-athletes as part of their overall educational experience - Provide medical coverage at intercollegiate home events and practices. Potentially travel with teams to off-site events - Communicate with Head Coaches as to status and progress of student-athletes - Manage medical records and documentation, assist student-athletes in navigating the health insurance and health care system. Complete SOP notes daily - Work with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver first class quality care to student-athletes - Demonstrate positive and effective communication in all aspects of job; including writing, speaking, listening, and non-verbal skills - Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, Conference, College, and Department of Athletics rules, policies and expectations including commitment to life-long learning, sportsmanship on and off the field of play, positive leadership and the desire and ability to act as a positive role model and representative of the Institute at all times. You will comply with all department, college, conference and NCAA regulations

Basic Qualifications - Certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) - Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization - Professional experience in collegiate athletics - First Aid/CPR Professional Rescuer Certification - Familiarity with NCAA governing rules - Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills - Teamwork with peers and department - Strong computing skills including database manipulation, email and calendar savvy - Passion for and ability to promote personal growth and learning
Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree in appropriate field of specialization - Two years' experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer in a competitive environment - Additional certifications enhancing skill set - Experience in care for aquatic sports
