The successful candidate will have a 9-month appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Teach courses in soil science and related areas at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Other teaching related responsibilities include student advisor, curricula development, student recruitment and retention, and departmental/school/university committee appointments. He/she will also develop courses and/or course contents that focus in agricultural and urban food production systems. Specific research areas will include development of land management approaches that improve soil health; impact of soil organisms on soil physical, biological and chemical properties; roles of soil organisms in carbon and nutrient cycling; and the impacts of changing climate on soil community dynamics and ecosystem function.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design is one among four departments in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University. Our highly qualified and enthusiastic faculty and staff provide first-class instruction that leads to B.S. degrees in: (1) Agricultural and Environmental Systems – concentrations in Sustainable Land Management, Urban/Community Horticulture, and Environmental Studies, (2) Biological Engineering, and (3) Landscape Architecture. Our M.S. program and our major research interests focus in the areas of soil and water quality, land and water conservation, mushroom production and fungal biotechnology, insect pest management, sustainable agriculture, urban food production systems, bioenergy and energy efficient technologies for sustainable agriculture and food processing, and carbon and nitrogen dynamics in terrestrial and aquatic systems. A doctorate in soil science with emphasis in soil chemistry or soil microbiology is required by the date of anticipated appointment. Candidates with training and knowledge in all areas (microbial ecology, soil food web and ecosystem function, microbial community assay techniques, diversity and function of soil microbial communities, etc.) of soil microbiology are encouraged to apply. The candidate must have effective communication skills, the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, the agricultural community, and students.
Postdoctoral experience, evidence of scholarly activities, and a competitive external grants record are desirable but not required.
Three years teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level preferred.
